On Wednesday night, Assistant Republican Leader Senator Julia Coleman (R–Waconia) and Senate Republicans announced they delivered a quarter-billion-dollar tab fee tax cut for Minnesotans as part of end of session negotiations. In exchange for an infrastructure bill, along with commonsense fraud prevention reforms, tab fee rates will revert to the 2022 rate for one year, with a start date yet to be determined.

“$250 million is going back into the pockets of Minnesotans,” said Sen. Coleman. “Our goal this session was to make life more affordable for Minnesotans and stop the waste and fraud. I’m proud that we’re delivering real relief on two of the biggest issues facing families. Republicans are putting Minnesotans first, and this shows when we do that, we can actually get things done.

Additional agreements on supplemental budget items, property tax relief, and funding for Hennepin County Medical Center are not part of the Senate Republican agreement but were agreed to by other legislative leaders and expected to pass. The legislature must pass all bills by midnight on Sunday, May 17.
