Coleman to Speak at GOP District Convention

 The Freeborn County Republican Party will host the 1st Congressional District Convention on Saturday, with guest speaker U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman.

Delegates and alternates will gather to endorse a candidate to run against incumbent Democratic Congressman Tim Walz of Mankato, to elect delegates to the Republican National Convention in St. Paul the first week of September and to adopt resolutions to the party platform.

State House District 29A Rep. Randy Demmer of Hayfield and Dr. Brian Davis of Rochester are vying for the nomination to challenge Walz in next November’s general election.

“This is a wonderful event, and we are excited for Freeborn County to be the host,” said Freeborn County Republican Party Chairman Tiny Brandt. “We are fortunate to have two very strong candidates and I know that whoever is endorsed will have an excellent shot of winning our house seat.”
