Senator Coleman Op-Ed: Congress must respond to economic challenges

With our economy showing signs of a significant downturn, if not outright recession, it’s clear that we as a state and as a nation are facing challenging times. The latest economic indicators all point to real concerns in the rate of inflation, record numbers of home foreclosures, and a virtual freeze in new jobs. When talking to fellow Minnesotans about their personal situations, it’s clear that a great many of our friends and neighbors have a deep sense of anxiety about their job, their health insurance, and the increasing cost of filling up at the pump and buying groceries. In short, far too many Minnesotans tell me they worry that they and their families may soon become one of the statistics.
