New Webvideo: Rural Health Care

In the latest in a series of webvideos focusing on Senator Coleman’s record of bipartisan accomplishment in Washington, the Coleman for Senate campaign today released a webvideo highlighting Senator Coleman’s work to increase the quality of health care in Greater Minnesota. “Bringing People Together: Rural Health Care” features Lori Wightman, a hospital administrator in New Ulm, discussing Senator Coleman’s work to increase the level of funding for Critical Access Hospitals.

Thanks in part to Senator Coleman’s legislative efforts, Critical Access Hospitals across the country, like the one in New Ulm ran by Lori, could see an increase over $1.6 billion. This specific type of health care facility is a hospital that receives cost-based reimbursements from Medicare. The state of Minnesota ranks third nationally in the number of Critical Access Hospital with 80 throughout the state, making them of critical need to the people of Minnesota.

Additionally, Senator Coleman has worked to bring a Critical Access Hospital to Walker, MN after local officials informed him that some resident of Cass County had to drive 40 minutes to find the nearest health care facility. To do so, Senator Coleman had to secure a special waiver from the federal government because Walker laid just inside the 35 mile boundary set by the government.
