We Remember

One year ago today, the unthinkable happened when the I-35W bridge collapsed, tragically ending the lives of 13 people and disrupting the lives of thousands more. Today, we remember and honor the victims of this terrible tragedy, as well as their families.

As we remember the tragedy that befell our great state, we can also remember the great character Minnesotans showed in the face of tragedy. In the days following the collapse, we witnessed countless acts of heroism, sacrifice and unity. From the first responders who rushed to the scene to the ordinary citizens who ran towards the danger to the many branches of government who came together, we all saw what can happen when politics and division are set aside to move forward with one goal.

Nothing can ever replace the lives lost, but as we look ahead to the nearing completion of the new I-35W bridge, we can be proud of the determination and unity that Minnesotans have shown in the past year.
