PSI report exposes tax havens

The Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations released a groudbreaking report yesterday exposing overseas tax havens used by the wealthy to dodge federal taxes. Senator Norm Coleman, the top Republican on the panel, worked closely with PSI Chairman and fellow Senator Carl Levin, a Democrat, to pursue the investigation and report, and also recommend ways to tighten the tax loopholes that were exploited.

This is yet another example of Senator Coleman’s work to protect taxpayer dollars by rooting out waste, fraud and abuse in our government. Just this year, he helped expose spending abuses by government employees using government credit cards. Under Norm’s leadership, the Subcommittee also found that many Medicare providers, who collect a check from the government, have significant federal tax delinquencies. Recently, the panel shed light on a fraud scheme where crooks were using the identities of dead doctors to get Medicare dollars.

In total, under the leadership of Senator Coleman, PSI has now exposed $17 billion of waste, fraud and abuse within the federal government – and he is continuing to work in a bipartisan way to stamp out these abuses and ensure accountability in government spending.
